starting about now i’ll be hefting myself up onto the saddle and pointing my bike towards lake louise. starting in jasper.
my goal is to ride 220km in one day with 2 mountain passes between me and my destination.

this image shows the trip in the opposite direction. this trip also breaks it up into a sane 7 day trip.
i’ll take some snaps as i ride and post them so you can see how it all went.

even in french, these guys need more padding
no wheels, no seat, no brakes, no helmet?
... and for those of you that like things a little further on the edge

so i rode 100 miles this weekend. in one day. in cool-guy-biking-circles that’s known as a century.
i’m fairly tired, but managed to get around the whole course (PDF). my longest ride on a road bike before this was 60km.
so the fact that i survived the entire 169km was a good confidence boost. the feeling in my legs as i type this is not as reassuring…
during the ride the temperature got up to 34+C. this is a picture of the sunburn i got – and the number they wrote on my arm inversed (the marker washed off – this was left):

if you don’t really get the tour de france, why a bunch of guys on bikes get spectators so excited, there is a fantastic photo retrospective here that might give you a sense of the 100 years of history behind this bike race.
